How do we nurture, encourage, facilitate, and participate in the transformations in consciousness (from individuals to community) – in making significant changes in the way we perceive and shape our reality?

Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) has been working on an answer to this question for over a decade, which led to the development a working model of consciousness transformation that is depicted in the diagram above.

The model shows that transformation begins with a subjective experience of inner (noetic) knowing and then follows a continuing process of exploration and practice, leading to the enrichment of both the individual and the collective.

Implicit in ION’s model of transformation is the belief that “bridging individual experience, the wisdom of the world’s spiritual traditions, and the rigor and discernment of science leads to new knowledge, understanding, and practical applications of the powers and potentials of human consciousness.”

This particular intersection of the objective with the subjective is also what ION calls the “noetic sciences.” And just as geographical maps facilitate in-depth exploration of specific territories, this working model frames the transformative process in a way that guides much of the Institute’s work.

This brief YouTube video is an introduction to the work of IONS. The goal of IONS is “to create a shift in consciousness worldwide—where people recognize that we are all part of an interconnected whole and are inspired to take action to help humanity and the planet thrive.” They have many partners in this pursuit.

Since we are indeed “all part of an interconnected whole,” then our human species needs a worldview transformation to survive and thrive in the rapidly changing future on our finite planet.
