Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2018

Monday, January 15, 2018 is the 89th Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Birthday Convocation – strengthening our Beloved Community; propelling change through community conversations.Here’s the schedule of events in Redding CA:

  • 8-9 a.m. – Bell Ringing at Old City Hall, 1313 Market Street. Community leaders reflect upon Martin Luther King Jr.’s life.
  • 10-10:30 a.m. – Prayer Circle at the corner of Court and Yuba Streets at south end of the Court House
  • 10:30-11 a.m. – Sidewalk march on Court Street to MLK Jr. Community Center
  • 11-12:30 p.m. – Program and luncheon at MLK Jr. Community Center

There will be a shuttle buss beginning at 9 a.m., running every 10 minutes from the MLK Center (1815 Sheridan Street) to the Court House.

Additional Community events:

  • Saturday, January 13, 2018, 5-7:30 p.m. – KIXE and the MLK Jr. Center will be showing the film I Am Not Your Negro by Raoul Peck, at the MLK Jr. Center with an open discussion following the film, facilitated by Myriam Kalmogho, community sustainable development & social change activist. Note: the film contains adult content and is not intended for children.
  • Saturday, January 20, 2018 – The 15th Annual Multi-cultural Celebration will be held at Central VAlley High School in Shasta Lake. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with community resource tables free samples of international food and student art work reflecting diverse cultures. A community concert begins at 1 p.m., Everyone is invited to this free event
