KFOI 90.9 FM

There’s a new North State Community Radio (KFOI 90.9 FM) launching January 1, 2018, which will serve Shasta and Tehama Counties. Consider KFOI in your North State Giving Tuesday generosity. They promise to bring “a strong, progressive voice creating opportunities for building common ground and connectivity within and between communities.”

KFOI is a local 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer, community radio station, which will have a strong clear signal reaching from Shasta Lake City down through Redding south into Red Bluff, replacing a slot on the FM dial currently served by Jefferson Public Radio.

They aim to “encourage civil discourse; increase understanding of local and national issues; and strengthen our democracy[with a]… progressive, respectful and fact-based approach.”

KFOI will be a Pacifica Network affiliate, bringing programs such as Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now and Thom Hartmann. Local programming will include:

  • On Point Issues Forums (finding common ground)
  • Comings and Goings (singers and musicians who were born or passed away that week)
  • Native Plants In Situ (California Native Plant Society)
  • Small World Radio (Mauro Oliveira examines issues vital to humanity)
  • Jazz Influences (Dan Scollon hosts)
  • Intermountain Classics (Tom Diskin hosts beautiful classical music)
  • Wycked Fell Radio Theater (live radio plays)
  • UnSpun (Doug Bennett’s truth-telling)
  • Rhino Rock (classic rock & roll, after midnight)
  • Back In Time (musical history & stories)
  • Everything Is Cinema (Rex Hoss Thompson hosting)
  • Art for Art’s Sake (audio art tours produced by Melinda Brown)
  • Bird Notebook (insightful observations about regional birds)
  • Story Hour (creative local community writers)

Alta California Community Media (ACCM) holds the license for KFOI Community Radio. Their board members are Melinda Brown, Doug Bennett, Darryll Alvey, Rob Lightfoot, W. M. Shockley, Richard Clapp, Bill Dixon and Mauro Oliveira.

They are interested in your thoughts on programming and are looking for volunteers. To become involved or for more information call 530-255-8575 or visit their website.
