Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month with two events planned at Shasta College:

  • Wednesday, November 15, 2017 – A student panel: Resistance, Resilience and Re-Evolution on the Student Center Stage from 1-4 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 30, 2017 – screening of the 2017 film Beyond Standing Rock at 4 p.m. in Room 802.

Beyond Standing Rock is an hourlong documentary that shines a spotlight on the Dakota Access pipeline protest and its roots in a 170-year-long conflict between tribes and the U.S. government over independence, land ownership, and control of resources. The film was produced by Inside Energy, in collaboration with Rocky Mountain PBS and Fast Forward Films. Breathtaking aerial cinematography and insightful interviews take viewers on a journey across three modern stories of tribal sovereignty in America: Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota; Southern Ute Reservation in Colorado; and Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.
