Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect

Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect (SCCAR) is having their 28th Annual Civil Rights & Social Justice Awards Dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn,5050 Bechelli Ln, Redding, CA on Friday, November 3, 2017. Social Hour starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Buffet Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Marc Dadigan is being honored with a Special Recognition of Community Service or his unwavering commitment to the ideals of social justice. Marc works with many community groups and individuals to promote understanding, compassion and fairness. To name just a few: Stand Against Stigma/Brave Faces Coordinator; journalist covering Winnemen Wintu and Pit River issues; co-founder, facilitator for Indigenous People’s Day; and contributor to the projects and causes of SCCAR as an esteemed board member.
Tristyn Barker is the 2017 recipient of the Youth Achievement Award based on her two years as a leader of the Foothill High School’s Civil Rights Club and the school’s The Gay Straight Alliance. Tristyn works to defend and promote the safety and equality for students as well as educating school staff, teachers and students on how to be a supporter of anyone in the LGBTQ community. Her eagerness to learn about others is appreciated by her peers and teachers.
Sylvia Yzaquirre is the 2017 recipient of the Civil Rights and Social Justice Award based on her work implementing health and human services to our community and particularly in understanding the needs and issues of the youth of the Anderson, Cottonwood and Happy Valley areas. Sylvia also works with immigration concerns, knowing the laws, making sure people understand the issues and providing guidance when needed.
