Shasta County Arts Council has received a $14,000 grant from the California Arts Council for the Homeless Art Projects & Veterans Program  “to explore attracting, involving and teaching Redding CA homeless to create large format paintings, journaling and sketchbooks for creative expression.”

The art event is open to all community members from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for three more Thursdays (August 31st through September 14, 2017). The first round of HAP sessions will be oriented toward homeless veterans. The next HAP events will focus on homeless mothers and children.

Free painting activities will occur outside Old City Hall. Inside there will be portrait paintings by Judy King and veteran artist Chuck Prudhomme plus photography by Jim Canter; journal writing assistance is by Jessica Willis, Mary Lou Schmidt and Kai Kong Yee. The Project is under the direction of artist Luke Lucas and Jess A Mess.

A selection of the HAP artwork will be available for public community display and sales.
