Bite into a little bit of vengeance this July, as Shasta College presents Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit, Sweeney Todd returns to London after fifteen years of exile to exact vengeance on the corrupt judge who sentenced him. Along the way, he meets a cast of colorful characters, such as Nellie Lovett, who makes the worst meat pies in London.

“Sweeney Todd” won the Tony award for Best Musical in 1980, and is frequently revived on Broadway and across the country as a classic of the American musical stage. With book by Hugh Wheeler and music and lyrics by the great Stephen Sondheim, “Sweeney” is known for its breathtaking storyline and it’s gorgeous musical score.

The production features Shasta College students and Redding community members, including Blake Fisher, Jacob McDuffy, Brian Bisetti and Jessica Cox. The production is directed by Dr. Gregory Thorson, with David Fraser as the set designer, costumes by Hilary Fahey, lighting by Eddie Sadler and hair and makeup by Matthew McDonald. Musical direction is by Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury, with choreography by Hillary Rogerson. Sweeney Todd is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

This production is for mature audiences only.

Tickets are $13 for general admission and $11 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased online. For questions, please contact the box office at (530) 242-7573.
