World Economic Forum

Today is the final day of the World Economic Forum January 17-20, 2017 at Davos, Switzerland. Even though globalization is threatened by nationalist protectionism from BRExit and Donald Trump’s rhetoric, WEF remains “the foremost creative force for engaging the world’s top leaders in collaborative activities to shape the global, regional and industry agendas.”

For over four decades, the World Economic Forum’s mission – improving the state of the world – has driven the design and development of the Annual Meeting’s far reaching program:

So what’s the take-away this year?

  • From UK’s Express: “According to conspiracy theorists, who believe a secret Illuminati of global leaders actually run all world governments, the WEF is actually part of a sinister plot to create a New World Order. The Illuminati conspiracy theory claims a secret elite runs the world from behind the scenes and is attempting to install the New World Order upon the Earth, which would ultimately be one global Government controlled by them.”
  • As Fast Company sees it, “The conventional wisdom is that the WEF’s vision of free markets, falling borders, and globe-trotting do-gooders “is at best broken and at worst dead.” The good news? As last year’s summit proved, the “Davos Consensus” is invariably wrong.
  • New York Times reported “The world order has been upended. As the United States retreats from the promise of free trade, China is taking up the mantle.” “This is the first time there is absolutely no consensus,” said William F. Browder, who has been coming to Davos for 21 years. “Everyone is looking into the abyss.”
  • Speaking January 19, 2017, George Soros sees that Donald Trump as “an imposter, con-man and would-be dictator… who is going to fail and the market will not do well.”
