Redding’s Performing Arts Society is presenting Quintet Giocoso on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church ,2850 Foothill Blvd., Redding CA.
Quintet Giocoso is an ensemble with clarinet, bass clarinet & string quartet. String quartet performers hail from Carmel and the SF Bay Area, with PAS regular Bruce Belton on clarinet and bass clarinet, and guest bass clarinetist Ryan Heimlich.
The Quintet will perform two swing-era jazz works (one of which was written for Benny Goodman), the lovely and melodic Bagatelles for clarinet and strings by Gerald Finzi, two driving and exciting bass clarinet works, and finally Bruce Belton performing a reprise from his 2015 presentation of Steve Reich’s New York Counterpoint for eight clarinets and three bass clarinets, ten parts pre-recorded.
