There will be special screening of The Heart of Nuba at the Cascade Theatre in Redding CA on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
This two minute trailer video depicts the war-torn Nuba Mountains of Sudan, where American doctor Tom Catena selflessly and courageously serves the needs of a forgotten people, as the region is bombed relentlessly by an indicted war criminal, Omar Al-Bashir. Two things remain constant: Dr. Tom’s faith and his enduring love for the Nuba people.
The film, directed by Ken Carlson and produced by Maria Shriver, tells the story of Doctor Tom Catena, who ministers to the forgotten people of the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. The only surgeon within 200 miles, Dr. Tom does his best to save lives in the midst of carnage and terror, treating as many as 400 patients a day at Mother of Mercy Hospital, nestled in the heart of the Nuba Mountains.
Director Ken Carlson and his wife, Katrina Carlson will attend the screening. He will participate in Q&A after the movie and she will perform before the showing.
Tickets are $10 for adults and seniors and $5 for students (Students over 17 must show Student ID card). Tickets are available at the Cascade Theatre Box Office or at the door (service fees will apply.)
Proceeds from the event will benefit Dr. Tom’s work in the Nuba Mountains through the Take Heart Foundation. The foundation, based in Wilmington, Delaware, is currently raising funds to buy supplies like vaccines and syringes to support the local school and, most importantly, to continue to train the Nuba staff and prepare surgeons to one day operate their hospital independently.
The showing is sponsored by Genocide No More—Save Darfur, CEP American (your doctors in an emergency—Mercy Medical Center Redding/St. Elizabeth Community Hospital), Lee and Judy Salter, MD Imaging, and Mercy Beyond Borders.
