On the call, Carney, co-founder and Executive Director of Friends of the Congo, will be speaking on “Six million deaths: what’s happening in the Congo and why it matters.” He will discuss the country’s political path, its poverty, and wars and mass sexual violence relating to the Congo and its resources. He will also talk about roles of the United States, other nations, multinational corporations and local leaders in all of this.
The Peace Alliance, headquartered in Washington D. C. is a 501 c4 non-profit, launched in 2004. It was co-founded by internationally acclaimed author, speaker and peace activist Marianne Williamson along with a team of leaders who wanted to take the work of peacebuilding and make it a national and international priority through policy and legislation, as well as embodied in our everyday lives. Their focus is on proactive approaches to cultivating peace.
