Ring in the New Year “New York City style” on December 31, 2016 with a signature gala event at the Redding Civic Auditorium that’s sure to become an annual tradition! Redding is where the party’s at this New Year’s Eve as North State Symphony ushers in 2017 in style! Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. Celebrating New York City Style means we usher in the new year at 9:00 p.m. pst, so you can get home early!
The evening kicks off with no-host cocktails, conversation with your friends, and live jazz background music. Enjoy light hors d’ouevres and a no-host bar with your Club-Level balcony seat, or splurge on a multi-course prime rib or salmon dinner with a Stage-Level table seat. Then sit back and relax, or enjoy dancing and festive company while reveling in the great sounds of a symphonic pops concert conducted by Scott Seaton, featuring entertaining guest artists performing a wide variety of popular and beloved songs and music from “the city that never sleeps.”
Soprano Olga Perez Flora and tenor James Flora will perform Broadway hits from West Side Story, “New York, New York,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better.” For opera fans, they’ll perform the famous drinking song (“Brindisi”) from Verdi’s La Traviata (you may just be inspired to sing along!). Show-stopping pianist Hyperion Knight will play ragtime favorites and George Gershwin’s jazz-influenced sensation for piano and orchestra, “Rhapsody in Blue.”
At 9 pm, celebrate an early-evening New York City ball drop, Redding style, as the Symphony plays “Auld Lang Syne.” Get Dressy, get on your dancing shoes, and get ready to welcome 2017 in with a bang!
