ReddingLife.org is sponsoring City Connect on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 1-4 p.m. at the Good News Rescue Mission, 3100 So. Market Street, Redding, CA.

CityConnect is a free, family-friendly event to make connections and get involved with solutions for the challenges we face as a community.  CityConnect 2016 will have food samplings from local restaurants, fun creative arts to include face painting, balloon creations and other “connection” themed attractions, drawings for gift certificates from Redding owned businesses and a photo and civic information booth to “Meet Your Civic Leaders”.

Over 30 local non-profit organizations will be on-site to discuss their roles in the fall 2016-winter 2017 Redding LIFE Volunteer Partnership Opportunities Catalog.  There will be an ongoing partner-match workshop where attendees can enlist a CityConnect facilitator and assess which partnership opportunities fit them best.

Redding area non-profit opportunities offer a variety of commitment levels and positions ranging from community gardening, teaching your favorite hobby, mentoring adults and children, to serving alongside neighbors and new friends in a soup kitchen, an administrative office setting or working with people who are rebuilding their lives.

CityConnect 2016 is a bi-annual community-wide partnership event produced by Redding LIFE. The City of Redding, Shasta County, Good News Rescue Mission, Neighborhood Church, United Way, Redding Chamber of Commerce, Risen King, Shasta CAPCC, Bethel Church and Shasta Builder’s Exchange are only a handful of the many local businesses, agencies and organizations coming together to make CityConnect 2016 possible.

Over the past year, Redding LIFE has hosted 4 similar events on a much smaller scale.  These events have brought out 100’s of people who want to be more involved in their community.  The result has been over 100 people finding partnership with local public and social benefit organizations.  These partnerships take on many forms to include advocates, educators, promoters, financial investors and administrative or client services volunteers.  Come out to CityConnect and take your place in Redding life.

    From Heather Tremblay:

If you did not make it over to the purpose-match workshop at CityConnect 2016, you can access it online at http://www.reddinglife.org/purpose-match . This survey helps clarify which roles might suit your interests, skills and motivations best. With over 200 opportunities in our 2016-2017 catalog, this survey has helped many discover roles they did not realize were available.

Maybe you have an interest in event planning, decorating or counseling, but your motivation is around supporting our local government. Did you know that the city of Redding has volunteer opportunities in all of these areas of interest?

Or maybe the homelessness challenge motivates you but your primary skills include organizing and social media. Many groups addressing the homelessness issue have roles that need organizers and social media involvement.

Participating in the seemingly smallest ways helps propel the work of an entire agency. Your investment of time and skill makes a difference.

If you would like a FREE copy of the Fall 2016-Winter 2017 Volunteer Partnership Opportunities catalog, you can pick one up at many of the CityConnect agencies or visit the Redding LIFE offices at 20 Lake Blvd, East Entrance, Monday – Friday 9am to 4:30pm. We value your interest and are here to help you find your place in our city.
