Hawaii’s Slack Key Master Returns to Redding

Oaksong Society is presenting Led Kaapana and Da Ukulele Boyz on Saturday, Oct 22, 2016 at Pilgrim Church, 2850 Foothill Blvd., Redding CA.

This show brings back full-circle the Oaksong Music Society’s long-running tradition of presenting the very best in Hawaiian music. Concert-goers who have attended Oaksong Music Society shows for many years will remember that Led Kaapana headlined the very first Oaksong Music Society Hawaiian Luau at Gray Pine Farm back in 2005. That amazing show also featured Bill Tapia, the 96-year-old “Duke Of Uke”. This time around, Led is joined by Da ‘Ukulele Boyz, (Peter deAquino and Garrett Probst), and will be accompanied by dancers from Redding’s Hula Arts Academy.

Led Kaapana’s mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal following of “Led Heads” from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned Led 4 Grammy nominations in his own right and 2 wins on slack key compilations.

Tickets are $25.
