Dispatches from the War Zone

Mike Rhodes

Mike Rhodes, the author of Dispatches from the War Zone, will speak in Redding  CA on Saturday, August 27, 2016, beginning at 1 p.m.

The public is invited to this free event, which is being held in the downstairs Social Hall at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of South and East Streets.

It is being sponsored by the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity County Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California (ACLU-NC), the Redding Homeless Day Resource Center and Shasta County Citizens for Democracy (SCCD).

Dispatches chronicles the struggles of Fresno’s homeless population from 2002 to 2015. Rhodes was a key organizer of a class action lawsuit brought by the homeless against the City of Fresno, which resulted in a $2.3 million dollar settlement. “It also forced the City to stop bulldozing homeless encampments and it compensated them for their losses,” Rhodes said.

“In the Redding area, we should be treating our homeless population with the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Don Yost, chairperson of the local ACLU chapter. “Mr. Rhodes will be leading the community in a conversation about how to advance the rights of the homeless here.”
