The faith community in Redding CA is making a Stand for the Earth this Saturday, June 11, 2016 from noon to 1 p.m. at the south end of the Mt. Shasta Mall on the public sidewalk on Dana Drive between the Outback and Panda Express restaurants.
This Stand for the Earth event is in solidarity with an international day for religious and interfaith responses to climate issues titled “Sacred Earth, Sacred Trust.” For more information about this event, visit their website at where you will see that our Redding event is one of six being held in California. The website has suggestions for more activities that your faith group could plan for Sunday, June 12, 2016, the official day for Sacred Earth, Sacred Trust.
Clergy members and other faith leaders from Redding and the Shasta County Interfaith Forum (SCIF) will be attending this event in the sacred attire of their faith groups.
The Stand for the Earth group is attempting to craft a message that invites respectful discussion about climate change issues. To this end, they will provide all signs for their public events. They ask that you please do not bring your own signs or fliers to this event.
You may have signed up to be on their email list at a previous Stand for the Earth event or at their table at the Whole Earth and Watershed Festival in April 2016.
The grassroots organization started in December 2015 as a local response to the Paris COP21 talks on climate change. In coming weeks, they will be sending an email announcing when their website goes live and when they will begin Meet-Up groups around specific themes and actions.
