Shasta Symphony Orchestra‘s concert Spring to the Symphony will be on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Shasta College Theatre.

Visionary composers whose music changed the musical landscape of the twentieth century are featured in the final concert of the SSO’s ’15-’16 season. William Grant Still’s jazz and blues influenced masterwork, “Symphony No. 1” anchors the concert. William Grant Still is known as the “Dean of Afro-American Composers.”

Short works by Edgar Varese and David Maslanka, master composers from opposite ends of the twentieth century, will show two wildly different approaches to writing music in the 20th century.

The highlight of the concert will be performances by the winners of the 2015 Student Concerto and Aria Competition.

Musician from Simpson University Music Department will also be participants.

Tickets are $10 for general admission; $8 for seniors; and $5 for students. Tickets are available online up to 3 hours and 30 minutes prior to the performance.
