The Women’s Fund Forum presents Lloyd S. Pendleton speaking on How Utah Implemented Housing First and Reduced Homelessness on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from noon – 1:30 p.m. at Sequoia Middle School’s McLaughlin Auditorium.

The public is invited to this FREE educational program sponsored by The Women’s Fund, along with the Record Searchlight and the Shasta Community Health Center. They are bringing Pendleton, a national expert, to Redding to talk about the Housing First model in Utah. Pendleton is former director of the Homeless Task Force for the state of Utah and the man who let an audacious effort to fight homelessness in Salt Lake City, that has become a national model.

The model provides housing first, and then combines that housing with supportive treatment services in the areas of mental and physical health, substance abuse, education, and employment. Utah was the first state to adopt a statewide Housing First policy, with success they call astounding.

Utah has moved 91%of its chronically homeless population off the streets in the past 8 years, successfully housing over 2,000 people.

This important topic is often linked to mental health and public safety issues, as well.
