Indigenous People’s History Show and Street Fair

Shasta Historical Society is presenting an Indigenous People’s History Show and Street Fair at the Cascade Theatre on October 17, 2015. The five historical Indigenous Tribes of Shasta County have joined together with the Shasta Historical Society to create this one of a kind event.

Street Fair – This free event starts at 11:00 am with a street fair in front of the Cascade Theatre in downtown Redding CA. Enjoy food, music, powwow dancers, information booths, and tribal vendors at the fair from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Free Monthly Program – At 1:30 pm come inside the Cascade Theatre and hear indigenous tribes speak about their history and their connection to the land. This free program will give an introduction into the history of each of the tribes through the lives of important historical figures. Also included will be a prayer for the absorbed tribal bands that are no longer able to represent themselves. Beedi Yalumina – Never Give Up will honor the men and women who worked to keep their cultures alive as the world around them drastically changed.

Everyone is encouraged to come spend the day in Downtown learning the history of our county’s indigenous people.

This program is made possible thanks to the Shasta Historical Society’s community partners: Viva Downtown, Jefferson Live, Shasta County Arts Council, and local indigenous groups.
