Unforseen Journerys

Shasta Symphony Orchestra and Simpson University are co-sponsoring a concert on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 7:30 PM at the Shasta College Theater, 11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, CA 96003

Ever have a great idea turn out totally different than expected? The idea of unexpected results, both positive and negative, is explored musically through two masterworks of the orchestral repertoire:

  1. Prokofiev’s “Lt. Kije Suite” – based on a story from old Russia when a typographical error on a military census caught the Tzar’s eye and the generals had to invent a “picture-perfect Lt. Kije” to cover for their mistake… including hosting a royal burial with an empty casket!
  2. Schubert’s Symphony in B minor – nicknamed “The Unfinished” because it is only two movements long. However, the composer didn’t run out of time. Rather, after finishing the powerful and sublime first two movements, he thought any additional music would be unnecessary!

Additionally, vocal artist JennyRebecca Winans will sing two gorgeous arias by Verdi and Dvorak.

Tickets are $10 general; $8 Seniors; and $5 for students. They are available for purchase online and at the door.
