First 5 Shasta Seeks Commission Members

First 5 Shasta (Shasta Children and Families Commission) was formed in 1999 following the statewide passage of the California Children and Families Act (Proposition 10). Proposition 10 placed a fifty-cent tax on tobacco products and revenues support early childhood development and school readiness for young children ages 0-to-5.

The Shasta Children and Families First Commission provides leadership and accountability in prevention and early intervention practices that foster the optimal health and development of children in the prenatal stage through the FIRST 5 years of life. First 5 Shasta Pathway Goals are:

  1. Healthy, well-timed births
  2. Health and development on track
  3. Supported and supportive families
  4. High-quality childcare and early education
  5. Continuity in early childhood experiences

To date, First 5 Shasta has invested over $20 million in local programs and activities that benefit young children and ultimately impact the entire community.
