Strong Towns in Shasta County

Churn Creek Bottom Homeowners are one of eight sponsors bringing Strongtowns.org presenters to Redding for a Curbside Chat on April 11, 2012, 6 PM – 8 PM at McLaughlin Auditorium at the Sequoia Middle School, 1805 Sequoia Street, Redding, CA. This is a FREE event and refreshments will be provided.

Strong Towns is a non-partisan, non-profit organization founded in 2009. They advocate for changes in our pattern of development (away from past patterns of suburban development) and a complete understanding of the full costs of such growth. They focus on issues of town growth and development, the financing of local projects, municipal finance, infrastructure, land use or related topics that you are not likely to hear from traditional sources. They refer to post WW II suburban development as a “ponzi scheme.” What do you think? What is your “futurama” vision for the Redding area?

For a discussion of new strategies for the economic realities facing America’s towns read the Curbside Chat or download their pdf .

Check out the YouTube video at TEDx 1000 Lakes by Chuck Marohn. He talks about the high cost of maintaining the infrastructure of suburbia (streets, parks, etc.) and stresses the importance of returning roads to towns for community and economic development.
