What Would Jesus Do?

Public television station KTWU produced a series called Beyond Theology. Check out their great interactive website!

The series emerged from a documentary related to the origins of the question “What would Jesus do?” That question, in its popularized form, came from a sermon series by the Reverend Charles M. Sheldon – a Protestant minister at Central Congregational Church in Topeka, Kansas. First published in 1896, these stories provide the framework for In His Steps, which became one of the most widely published books in the world (over 30 million copies)!

The book is the story of a homeless man seeking human compassion, looking for work, but everyone was rude to him, which begs the question “What would Jesus do?” All through the book, the element of personal suffering and sacrifice is continually presented as the ultimate test of following Christ.

Practicing Christianity is more than belief. Following Jesus is beyond theology and beyond religion.
