Shasta College Gardening Workshops

As Casey Schurig says, “December is a good time for garden dreams and wishes.” This means ordering seeds; cleaning tools; garden clean up; reviewing your garden journal and making plans for your spring garden.

If you need some help planning your garden or getting started, every Wednesday, from 9 AM to 1 PM Shasta College Community Teaching Garden offers free General Gardening Workshops that provide hands-on experience as well as instruction in the following areas:

  • Preparing soil
  • Making beds
  • Planting seeds and transplants
  • Mulching
  • Composting
  • Building irrigation systems
  • Designing garden areas
  • Dealing with pests and weeds in non-toxic ways.

All instruction focuses on organic and sustainable methods.

Instructors are Dr. Jim Collins, Garden Manager; Wayne Kessler, Garden Advisor; or Pamela Spoto, Project Director

For additional workshop information please contact Pamela Spoto at (530) 242 -2248 and/or email teachinggarden@shastacollege.edu

A News Cafe also had a good article on the new Teaching Garden on Shasta College campus.
