Food Day

Food Day is today, Monday, October 24, 2011 and Growing Local is looking forward to seeing many join them in the sharing of food, company and conversation at 6 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1825 East Street, Redding .

It’s a potluck so please bring a main dish, salad, dessert or bread that cost around $5 to make and use local products if possible. Children are welcome. If you could bring your own place settings that would help reduce the amount of disposable products. RSVP not required but would be helpful – growinglocalshasta@gmail.com

Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life—parents, teachers, and students; health professionals, community organizers, and local officials; chefs, school lunch providers, and eaters of all stripes—to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.

Ask Congress to Support Food Day’s Goals:

  1. Reduce diet-related disease by promoting safe, healthy foods
  2. Support sustainable farms & limit subsidies to big agribusiness
  3. Expand access to food and alleviate hunger
  4. Protect the environment & animals by reforming factory farms
  5. Promote health by curbing junk-food marketing to kids
  6. Support fair conditions for food and farm workers
